If you do a lot of hiking, then the Fiskars X7 is your choice. It’s light, compact and easy to carry, while the weight is concentrated in the head. You can buy a Fiskars for around the $25 which is a great price.
The Fiskars X7 comes with a nice plastic sheath so you can easily carry it, or attach it to your bag or belt. The new X7 series are better balanced, have a revised handle with better grip and comfort and are made with a harder steel.
The X7 doesn’t weigh much due to the handle that is made from a fibre compound. Some people don’t like the FiberComp because you can’t replace it when it brakes. But keep in mind that you get a lifetime warranty on the hatchet and that the FiberComp handle is stronger than steel. So it won’t break easily.
